CONington Code of Conduct
The short version
Don't be an asshole. That's honestly most of it. The rest of this page is the long version, because spelling it out helps.
This applies everywhere CONington shows up: the convention (CONington 2027, Oct 8-10, 2027, all over Covington), our community game nights and other events, and our online spaces (Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, our Kickstarter page and comments, and our Discord).
All are welcome at our tables
We mean it. Be kind. Make room. Assume the new person at the table is going to be your favorite player by the end of the game. Nobody has to earn a seat here.
No harassment, hate, or discrimination
Not here, not online, not "just joking." That includes anything targeting someone's race, ethnicity, religion, national origin, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, disability, age, body, appearance, or how long they've been gaming. Slurs, threats, stalking, intimidation, and following someone around after they've told you to stop are all out.
Consent and personal space
- Ask before you touch anyone or their cosplay or props.
- Ask before you take photos or video of people. If they say no, that's the answer.
- "No" means no. "Not now" means no. Silence means no.
- Give people room, especially at booths, at tables, and in crowds.
Heads-up: official CONington photographers may be taking event photos. If you'd rather not be in them, just tell the photographer.
At the table
- Respect your GM and your fellow players.
- Respect safety tools, such as the X-Card or Lines and Veils. No arguing, no explaining, no eye-rolling. Just adjust and keep playing.
- Share the spotlight. Let the quiet player have their moment.
- Play fair. Winning by being a jerk isn't winning.
Everybody follows this
Vendors, volunteers, GMs, guests, and the four of us who own this thing (Shaun, Steve, Scott, and Michael) all follow it. Nobody gets a pass, least of all us.
How to report a problem
If something happens to you or you see it happen to someone else:
- Find a CONington organizer at the event, or
- Contact us at shaunsmith@conington.org.
We take every report seriously, we look into each one, and we keep them as private as we possibly can. You don't need proof, and you don't need to have it all figured out. Just tell us.
If anyone is in danger or there's an emergency, call 911 first.
What happens next
If someone breaks this code, the response depends on the situation: a quiet word, a warning, or a request to leave. Serious stuff can mean a ban from future CONington events. We decide based on what keeps our community safe, not on who you are or who you know.
The end
Be cool, be kind, roll some dice. See you at the tables!
